Interview with visiting scholar Dr. Glenn T. Eskew at the Georgia Historical Society’s 2017 NEH Summer Institute “Recognizing an Imperfect Past: History, Memory, and the American Public.” Dr. Eskew is Professor of History at Georgia State University where he teaches courses in southern history. His recent biography Johnny Mercer: Southern Songwriter for the World (Athens: University of Georgia Press, 2013), received the Malcolm and Muriel Barrow Bell Award from the Georgia Historical Society. His book But For Birmingham: The Local and National Movements in the Civil Rights Struggle (Chapel Hill: University of North Carolina Press, 1997), received the Francis Butler Simkins Prize of the Southern Historical Association and Longwood College.
